🍄 D Day is 24 April 2020... 🍄

“This is the Domestic Service, broadcasting to all free peoples, Above and Below. New London can take it…”

For fourteen bitter years the Vertical War has raged between the stalactite nation of New London and their dreaded enemies, the stormtroopers of Neufundland, below. And for fourteen years Icarus Earthstar has run wild with his street urchin friends, until the day they nearly kill a policeman. And then Icarus discovers that having a General for a father can’t always get you out of jail for free…

Icarus is still running – from the brutal Sergeant Gus, from an Army family who stand for everything he has kicked against, and from the tragedies of his past. But in a deadly vertical world where tyranny and freedom clash… a world haunted by the ghosts of the past and shadowed by the terrible weapons of the future… where every truth Icarus holds dear about family, friends and foes can shatter like a landslide… and where the only way out is up or down, he can’t keep running forever…

Shroom Raider is a Blitzpunk adventure of vertical savagery, hidden identity, and the bitter struggle for mastery of the worlds above and below. Perfect for fans of wartime adventure, steampunk, science fiction and dystopian fantasy. For middle grade readers aged 9-12.

I’m a huge fan of Band of Brothers. If you haven’t seen it yet I can’t recommend it too highly – it takes the look and feel of Saving Private Ryan and applies it to a more historically authentic story. It’s also fun to play spot the future stars – Tom Hardy, Michael Fassbender, James McEvoy (and Jamie Bamber, who does some splendid eyebrow-acting as Apollo in the Battlestar Galactica reboot.) And the germ of Shroom Raider lay in the simple question – how would paratroopers work in a world without flight?
